Cover Letter Samples: Accountant (Broadcast Letters)
An accountant's cover letter, as with any cover letter, should emphasize what the accountant has done for the employer. Do not make the mistake most accountants make, which is writing their resumes or cover letters so that they just offer a long, boring list of job duties they perform.
Most employers already know what job tasks an accountant performs and they don't want them restated on a resume in any great detail. Instead of listing job duties, focus on what you did for your employer in terms of saving money, increasing efficiency, reducing errors, streamling operations, automating the accounting process, reducing labor costs, etc.
An accountant should begin her resume with a summary section that lists her most spectacular accomplishments at all previous jobs as an accountant. Use any quantitave data that you have. For example:
--Saved employer $250,000 in annual labor costs by improving accounting system
--Reduced accounting error rate by 50 percent saving employer $300,000 annually
